This could very well be the most photographed Audi Cabriolet in history – since it once belonged to arguably the biggest celebrity of the 1990s.
We’re of course talking about Lady Di, who was a bit shielded from the press excess back when she was a member of the Royal family – and then it all went downhill with the paparazzi teams following her separation from Princes Charles in 1992. In 1994 she was actually the most photographed person in the entire world – and incidentally for a few months that year she was driving this particular Audi Cabriolet. It was a gift from the Ingolstadt-based automaker in March 1994 – an elegant ride for the most stylish woman on the planet. It has the rare Gomera Pearl hue and inside is adorned with parchment leather upholstery, and cream carpets.
It was also controversial at the time – British media didn’t like that she drove a German car. And became instantly recognizable so by July of 1994 it was already back at the dealership from where it soon found a new home. With such a recognizable example the mileage has remained low and has been kept in pristine condition, now becoming available at auction next month at Silverstone Auctions’ NEC Classic Motor Show, estimated at £50,000 to £60,000 ($61,586 to $73,903).
