The next generation Prius will debut in January 2009 at Detroit Auto Show. Some images showing the next gen Prius were leaked on the web via PriusChat, and Toyota confirmed that this is the way Prius will look like.

As a novelty, a more fuel-efficient 1.6 liters engine will replace the present 1.5 liters engine. In this way, power will be increased and in the same time fuel saving will be increased with a consumption of only of 4.9L/100km in the city and 5.22L/100km on the highway. Another modification made by Toyota for more fuel saving, was installing a more competent powertrain with enhanced batteries for longer thrilling-only forceful, as well as scheming a lighter body.
In addition, a solar roof that will enhance a better recharge of nickel-metal hydride batteries will be available on the next generation Prius.
The new Prius is expected to cost as much as the current model ( ~ $22,160 ).
