Every year, car companies constantly work to innovate and make their cars better and safer for the driver. According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, for 2011 the safest car is the BMW 5-series and the Hyundai Sonata.
A total of 33 cars earned the 2011 National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Top Safe
ty Pick award for being the safest cars on the road today. However, for 2011 a new test will be made at the end of this year according to the IIHS.
According to the NHTSA, vehicle safety ratings range from 1 to 5 stars, with 1 star being the lowest and 5 stars the highest. Because so many vehicles had reached the highest rating under the old rating criteria, and because the new standards are much more rigorous, not all previously rated 5-star vehicles will remain at 5 stars.
