The 2012 Bucharest Motor Show (SAB) is taking place between the 19th and the 28th of October at Romaero Baneasa but the automotive event is far from other similar events from all over the world.
When I found out that the 2012 SAB will open its gates for the 10th edition I was excited that after writing about similar events from all over the world, an automotive show is being held in my city, but the excitement was short because the event has been organized by car dealers, who were more interested in talking with potential customers than to the automotive media representatives.
In a warehouse, on a few hundred square meters, Romanian car dealers have brought their latest cars available, starting with the Chevrolet Malibu, which has made its national debut, and ending with the new Mercedes-Benz CLS Shooting Brake. Everyone was happy, dealers had offers for interested customers, people posed wealthy and got behind the wheel of some expensive cars, children were running all over the place screaming while their parents were trying to take a picture of them and cute girls were giving leaflets.
All cars exposed at the event could have been seen in 10 minutes max and the overall impression is that Romania is far behind in this chapter, unfortunately. The Opel Mokka, which isn’t available in Romania yet, has been parked outside, despite being the newest model there, because it hasn’t made it’s official debut in the country.
