The Australian division of General Motors has recently launched the 2012 model year of the popular Cruze model, in the hatchback version and wearing the Holden name on it, in Australia, with its future customers getting a choice of three four-cylinder engines at a price which makes it quite an interesting choice.

According to the North American based automotive giant, the 2012 Holden Cruze hatchback will be available only as a five-door version and the entry-level can be ordered for a starting price of 21.600 USD as the Cruze CD, coming with the 1.8 liter, four-cylinder naturally aspirated gasoline engine which is developing a total output of 139 horsepower and has a peak torque of 130 lb-ft, mated to the standard six-speed manual transmission or an optional six-speed automatic transmission.

The same powerplant is also available in the 25.200 USD Cruze CDX but diesel lovers can chose the 2.0 liter turbodiesel unit which has a total output of 161 horsepower and a peak torque of 266 lb-ft, with the same transmission choices.

An interesting engine comes in the form of a small 1.4 liter iTi turbocharged gasoline direct injection unit, which actually generates more power than the 1.8 liter powerplant, to a total output of 138 horsepower and a peak torque of 148 lb-ft, available for the Cruze CD, SRi and Sri-V.
