Mercedes Benz unveiled first images and information’s regarding the 2012 M Class. The redesigned M-Class gets all-new sheet metal and a revamped cabin. It will be offered initially in three variants: ML 250 Bluetec 4Matic, ML 350 Bluetec 4Matic and ML 350 4Matic BlueEfficiency.

A chiseled, nicely detailed front air dam and a taller, more imposing version of the Mercedes-Benz than the brand’s cars get sets the stage in front, and aggressive new character lines carve out more body definition alongside, with the sloping C-pillar again thick and accented.

Moving to the interior of the 2012 M Class – also shows various updates, including a new leather upholstery, a new steering wheel with wood inserts, and a range of other trim parts. About the gadgets and communications, the 2012 M Class offers Harman/Kardon Logic7 audio, as well as the Mercedes-Benz Comand communication/infotainment system, now with Internet access.

The basic ML 250 Bluetec will get its power from a twin-turbo 2.1-litre diesel engine with 201bhp and 369lb ft. A seven-speed automatic gearbox with stop-start and brake energy recuperation help it to achieve 47mpg — a figure that betters the outgoing six-cylinder ML300 CDI’s economy by 28 per cent.

Next, the ML 350 Bluetec 4Matic gets a new version of the 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel, with output hiked from 231 to 258 hp and torque from 398 to 457 lb-ft. The 3.0 CDI engine returns an average of 32 to 35 mpg on the European driving cycle, yet can gallop from rest to 60 in less than 7.4 seconds, reaching a top speed of 139 mph.

The only petrol engine at least for the moment is found on the ML 350 4Matic BlueEfficiency, which is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 gasoline direct-injection engine rated at 306 hp and 273 lb-ft. With this engine, the new 2012 Mercedes M Class will be capable to hit 62 mph in 7.63 seconds.

Moreover, a diesel-electric version, called the ML300 Hybrid, is set to be launched late next 
year and will run the ML250’s 2.1-litre engine in combination with a 20bhp electric motor.

The car will go on sale in September, and of course no price has been announced yet.
