The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, which was postponed last week over concerns of the spreading Waldo Canyon wild fires in Colorado will now take place on August 12.
Ticketholders who wish to refund their tickets have the option of donating them to the relief fund.
The fire has so far destroyed close to 350 homes in Colorado Springs and the surrounding area, and the race could be postponed yet again if further threats to safety become credible.
So cross your fingers, people. While we’d love to see Pikes Peak take place on its re-scheduled date, we wouldn’t want to see it if it means that it could still be dangerous for all parties involved.
Rescheduling an event like this is always an issue because the competitors have made plans and arranged vacation schedules to fit the date set. The organizers acknowledged that “we will lose some to scheduling conflicts.”
A growing category at the Hill Climb, Nobuhiro ‘Monster’ Tajima will be participating in the electric car class in a specially-developed EV. Also present will be World Rally legend Walter Rohrl in an Audi Sport quattro S1.
