Tesla Motors, Inc., the Silicon Valley-based automaker has just all the details, options and pricing for the 2012 Model S luxury electric vehicle. The Model S will start at $49,900 when it goes on sale in 2012, but the entire production for 2012 has been already sold-out.
The 60kWh model runs $59,900, and it’s another $10,000 jump to the 85kWh model.
Go up to $79,900 for the Performance model, which also comes with the 85kWh pack and a 0-to-60-mph time of 4.4 seconds. All of those prices are after a federal tax credit of $7,500.
Standard equipment includes an impressive, huge 17-inch touchscreen infotainment system and the Model S rolls on 19-inch wheels.
An upgrade package called Model S Performance, adds a high-performance drive inverter, exterior carbon fiber accents, and nappa leather with Alcantara accents inside, all riding on an active air suspension with sport-tuned traction control and upgraded wheels and tires.
By default it comes with a single 10 kilowatt charger (for comparison, the Leaf has a 3.3 kilowatt charger, and the Ford Focus Electric has a 6.6 kilowatt charger) that delivers up to 31 miles per hour of charging.
However, for $1500 your Model S can have two chargers, for a total of 20 kilowatts of charging speed, or up to 62 miles per hour of charging, but of course this would require a 240 volt 85 amp circuit.
All in all, the Model S looks like it will be the most exciting automobile of 2012.
