Even though the McLaren MP4-12C only just went on sale in 2011, the British automaker has unveiled the new model – well somehow.
For starters, the 3.8-liter V8 twin turbo engine of the 2013 McLaren MP4-12C now outputs 25 PS more, for a total of 625 PS at 7500 rpm and 600 Nm of torque between 3000 and 7000 rpm. The horsepower gain comes via new engine fuel mapping, and it boosts the MP4-12C’s output to 616 horsepower. Despite the gain, fuel economy remains unchanged, allowingthe MP4-12C to escape the gass-guzzler tax in the United States.
The top speed is marginally higher, the extra 24bhp being enough to raise it from 205mph to 207mph.
In addition to the increased output, McLaren will also be making some changes requested by customers. These include remote opening of the passenger door, a programmable engine note, enhanced equalization options on the Meridian surround sound system and an upgraded IRIS infotainment system.
A host of other electric upgrades are included in this revised MP4-12C. These include a system which automatically turns the car’s headlights on when it starts raining and a new mode for the climate control that gets the cabin much cooler more quickly, important in some of the MP4-12C’s key markets such as the Middle East, Asia and North America.
A stunning new high quality paint finish will be added to the options list for the new 12C. Volcano Yellow joins the ‘Elite’ set of paint finishes available for the revised model, and promises to be as spectacular as the popular Volcano Orange and Volcano Red finishes selected by many 12C customers since the car was launched in 2011.
A new wheel design and wheel finish available on multiple wheel designs will be offered to future 12C owners. A new 5-spoke lightweight-forged wheel may be specified for the 12C and is available in multiple finishes.
The changes will come into effect from October, along with a price hike that brings the basic price of a 12C up from £168,500 to £176,000.
Current owners of the 2012 MP4-12C will receive some of these upgrades at no extra costs. These include:
• M838T engine power increased to 625PS
• Revised calibration for 7-Speed SSG transmission
• Programmable Intake Sound Generator
• Headlights linked to rain sensor when in automatic mode
• Easy-Exit electric seat function incorporating Seat Return (if specified)
• New Meridian audio equaliser settings (if specified)
