2013 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT Coupe and Roadster unveiled image

Daimler is updating its Mercedes SLS Amg for the 2013 model year by adding more power, a recalibrated transmission and more dynamic suspension settings.

So, for 2013, the maximum power of the SLS AMG GT is 435 kW (591 hp – 563 of the outgoing model) at 6800 rpm, while the maximum torque is 650 Nm at 4750 rpm. The SLS AMG GT accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds, and can reach a speed of 200 km/h in 11.2 seconds.

But it’s not just the powertrain that gets some enhancements. Mercedes has reworked its adaptive performance suspension, and compared to the 2012 model, we’re told that the 2013 GT rides on stiffer springs and dampers that have been more aggressively tuned.

The automatic double-declutching function when shifting down is also more pronounced in the SLS AMG GT. Due to an increase in engine torque in manual mode, the shift procedure is even quicker than previously – and is accompanied by some passionate acoustic feedback for the driver.

The most hardcore setting for the suspension is “Sport plus” mode, which Mercedes-Benz says is proven to deliver faster lap times than with the regular SLS AMG. All of these settings are controlled via the AMG DRIVE UNIT, a carbon fiber encased control module located in the center console.

Audio enhancement is done naturally, Mercedes tells us; that means no synthetic exhaust notes piped through the stereo system like some other German brands that shall remain nameless.

Inside the main color is black. In contrast to all that darkness—and to make sure your passengers are aware they’re in a sporty vehicle—the GT gets red seat belts, red-trimmed floor mats, and red contrast stitching on the seats, center console, dashboard, and door panels.

The vehicle will hit the market in November in both coupe and roadster form.
