The German based automaker Volkswagen has officially unveiled the New Midsize Coupe (NMC) Concept during the 2014 Beijing Motor Show.
Surfacing a few days ago in some teaser images, the Volkswagen New Midsize Coupe Concept is ending up in our news once again, this time with the company unveiling it in Beijing. The one-off model is previewing a future production model which will ride on the MQB-B platform and will slot below the Passat.
The Volkswagen New Midsize Coupe Concept is wider than the Passat but shorter and lower than the Jetta. The model has a drag coefficient of 0.29, being easily differentiated by its sleek profile, Dragon Red paint scheme and 20-inch wheels, wrapped in low profile tires. Volkswagen has also used a reinterpretation of the LED headlights and the taillights have some aluminum accents.
Power to the new one-off vehicle signed by Volkswagen is being provided by a 2.0 liter TSI four-cylinder engine, which is producing a total output of 220 HP (162 kW). The unit is mated to a seven-speed DSG, which is allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.5 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 244 km/h (151 mph). The average fuel consumption stands at 6.4 liters every 100 km (44.1 mpg UK / 36.7 mpg US).
