The next generation of the BMW M3 F80 is expected to get 450 horsepower out of its straight-six engine, which will be similar to its main rivals from Mercedes-Benz and Audi.
The 2014 BMW M3, which has been codenamed the F80, is kept hidden by the German based automaker, but that doesn’t mean that we don’t know anything about it. The next generation of the BMW M3 has been spied and rendered a few times until now and, besides this, the model has also leaked some information about its technical specs.
For example, it is known that the upcoming M3 will get a straight six-cylinder turbocharged engine, which will be a heavily modified version of the N55, the same one found on the 640i or on the M135i. According to the guys at autocar.co.uk, the unit will develop a total output of 450 horsepower (456 PS / 335 kW) and 480 lb-ft of torque (650 Nm). The output is similar to the one in its main rivals, the Audi RS4 and the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG.
The engine in the 2014 BMW M3 will probably get a double clutch transmission and, in another premiere, besides the straight six-cylinder engine, the model will also get the electro-mechanical steering. The electronic M differential will also be kept. The 2014 BMW M3 will also lose some weight and it’s expected to weigh less than the current version (1,605 kg). The next generation of the BMW M3 might make its public debut in 2013, during the Geneva Motor Show in March.
