The new generations of the Porsche 911 Targa 4 and Targa 4S have been officially presented to the public during the 2014 NAIAS, in Detroit.
After being teased and after a few leaked images with the brand new 911 Targa, the model in question has finally made its public debut during the 2014 Detroit Motor Show. The sports car represents the returning of the original 1965 design and it’s coming with a removable front roof section and a wraparound rear window. The roof is said to be easily opened and closed in 19 seconds at the simple push of a button but only with the car being stationary. This will be positioned behind the rear seats.
The brand new Porsche 911 Targa will become available in two versions, the 911 Targa 4 and the 911 Targa 4S. The first one will be offered with a 3.4 liter six-cylinder engine fitted at its rear end, which is good for 350 HP (261 kW), enough for a 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) sprint made in 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 280 km/h (174 mph), when equipped with the Sport Chrono Package and the optional PDK transmission. The manual option will increase its top speed to 282 km/h (175 mph).
The more potent Porsche 911 Targa 4S will get a 3.8 liter six-cylinder unit under its “hood”, which will produce 400 HP (298 kW). The 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) acceleration will take just 4.2 seconds in this version and top speed will stand at 293 km/h (182 mph) with the PDK and Sport Chrono kit and at 295 km/h (183 mph) with the manual transmission. U.S. prices for the 911 Targa 4 will start at $101,600 and for the Targa 4S at $116,200.
