Audi has officially pulled the wraps off the new RS5 DTM race car, during the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, in a premiere.
With BMW officially unveiling the new M4 DTM not too long ago, time has come for one of its greatest rivals to make its public debut. We’re talking about the new Audi RS5 DTM, which has been officially presented to the public during the 2014 Geneva Motor Show.
“In production development, we tackle the challenge of making good cars even better day by day. This applies to Audi Sport as a part of Audi’s Technical Development as well. The most recent results achieved by hard work are an all-new R18 e-tron quattro that we’re aiming to stand our ground with at Le Mans and in the WEC against Porsche and Toyota, plus a largely new RS 5 DTM with which we’re aiming to keep our number-one spot in the tough competition with BMW and Mercedes-Benz. Of course, neither of these commitments is an end in itself: Motorsport at Audi accelerates the development of new technologies”, said Ulrich Hackenberg, the Member of Board of Management for Technical Development.
The new Audi RS5 DTM has received the same honeycomb grille as the production version, redesigned air ducts for the engine and brakes, different wing mirrors to allow the best airflow on them, and an overall redesigned aerodynamics package. The race car is also getting a revised suspension system, on both axles, along with several other modifications. The German based automaker’s motorsport division says that the newly unveiled Audi RS5 DTM is more capable than the last year’s entrant thanks to its many modifications. Additional details on the model remain unknown so far and may be announced over the following weeks.
