Gumpert has officially unveiled the brand new Explosion in Switzerland, during the 84th edition of the Geneva Motor Show.
After it managed to survive a bankruptcy, Gumpert has taken a step forward and presented a brand new model during the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. We’re talking about the so-called Explosion, which is an entry-level two-seater, designed by Martin Frank. The model in question has a carbon fiber and fiber glass reinforced plastic body, riding on top of the tubular frame chassis. This should assure its relatively lightweight.
The brand new Gumpert Explosion is taking its power from a 2.0 liter four-cylinder engine, which should make Mercedes-Benz jealous. The unit is developing a total output of 420 HP (313 kW) and it has a peak torque of 520 Nm (383 lb-ft). Power is being sent to the all-wheel drive system through a six-speed paddle shift transmission, which will allow it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in approximately three seconds. The new Gumpert Explosion is said to go into production later on this year and its price should start at 105,000 euros, or the equivalent of 144,500 USD. More details on the entry-level sports car will probably be announced close to its launch.
