Alpina Burkard Bovensiepen GmbH is well known among BMW aficionados as a high performance luxury tuner – sanctioned and approved by the Munich based company. Next to its beautiful take on the 4 Series at the Geneva auto show was also present the refreshed XD3 Biturbo.
Talking about a tuner that is serious – German style – BMW brought to the Geneva show to publicly unveil the facelifted X3 model and Alpina joined them in presenting the refreshed XD3 Biturbo – based on the new X3, even though the old XD3 only had year long run. BMW’s X3 is an important model for the company, with over a million units delivered in the last ten years.
In typical Alpina fashion, the new XD3 Biturbo will have a very limited run of just 170 units and the usual SAV (BMW’s naming of an SUV) properties will be joined by the Alpina ones – namely the Bi-Turbo powertrain that delivers 257 kW (350 hp) and 700 Nm. The XD3 goes to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds, while offering a very good fuel economy of 6.6 l/100 km / 174 g/km CO2. The rather outstanding fuel economy performance was possible thanks to the ZF eight-speed automatic transmission, which was especially modified for this model.
