The new generation of the Peugeot 308 has been crowned the 2014 World Car of the Year during this edition of the Geneva Motor Show.
Peugeot has stolen the 2014 World Car of the Year trophy from vehicles which seemed to have more chances than the French C-segment hatchback. Some of the cars which turned out to be not as good as the Peugeot 308 are the BMW i3, drugs the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, healing the Mazda3, the Citroen C4 Picasso, the Tesla Model S or the Skoda Octavia.
The 2014 Peugeot 308 has managed to achieve a total of 307 points, being followed by the BMW i3 with 223 points. The podium was closed by the Tesla Model S, with its 216 points, but this won’t probably be remembered by anyone outside these car manufacturers in a few days. The Citroen C4 Picasso has received 182 points, the Mazda3 180 points, the Skoda Octavia 172 points and the Mercedes-Benz S-Class just 170 points. Some of the candidates which didn’t make it into the final are the BMW X5, the BMW 4-Series, the Jaguar F-Type, the Kia Carens, the Ford Kuga or the Hyundai i10.
The new generation of the Peugeot 308 has been officially unveiled last year. the model in question is available with an engine lineup which includes the 1.2 VTi with 82 HP, the 1.2 e-THP with 110 HP, the 1.6 THP with 125 HP, the 1.6 HDi with 92 HP, the 1.6 e-HDi with 115 HP, the 1.6 BlueHDi with 120 HP and the 2.0 BlueHDi with 150 HP. Transmission options available are a five-speed and a six-speed, both manual.
