Mercedes-Benz will officially reveal the new 2014 S-Class next week at a special event in Hamburg, Germany. But until the official launch we already have its brochure with almost all its details.
According to the leaked document, initially, the flagship vehicle will be offered in three variants. The S350 will come with a 3.0-liter V6 turbo-diesel engine that will be capable to offer 255 hp while the S500 will be available with a 4.7-liter V8 engine that will generate 455 hp.
Of course Mercedes will also offer the S400 Hybrid – 306 hp from a 3.5-liter petrol and an electric unit. What’s interesting is that according to the Germans, the S400 Hybrid will offer a combined fuel compsumption of 6,1 liters / 100km.
However, we suspect that we are not shown the full launch line-up, since the S350 petrol version and the V8-powered S550 are missing. Also there are no details about the AMG lineup. Unlike prior S63 AMG models, the latest S63 AMG will be offered solely in all-wheel-drive guise.
The new S-Class will be crafted partly from aluminum, which will save weight and increase fuel economy. Rival luxury sedans such as the Audi A8 and Jaguar XJ also use aluminum construction.
The regular S-Class will be offered with eleven exterior colors, including three new ones: Anthracite Blue, Ruby Black and Diamond Silver.
Technology and comfort features include 12.3-inch TFT screens for the instrument panel and infotainment screen. The climate control system also offers active air filtering and perfuming along with heated armrests throughout.
The new S-Class is said to be the first ever able to drive itself. Even if only in certain situations, the car will be able to drive itself without any driver involvement. The system called by Mercedes “Steering Assist” is capable to monitor traffic and road and can work at speeds of up to 124 mph. Even if is not capable of negotiating complete corners yet, the system is very capable on highway and on monotonous stop and go traffic situations.
