2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class to be unveiled in May – full presentation leaked

The 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is coming. According to the latest documents, the new S-Class will make public appearance in May, so yes – it doesn’t come at the Geneva Motor Show next month, as we already announced.

The top of the range Mercedes will go into production in August and will hit the market in September. Shortly after, Mercedes will start to sell the S550 4MATIC and the S63 AMG 4MATIC in October or November.

As expected the flagship sedan will come with a lot of “toys” and safety features. Eco Start/ Stop System, Rearview camera, auto dimming mirrors, power seats with memory, command navigation system, wood or leather steering wheel, collision prevention assist (new) attention assist, panorama sunroof, magic vision control (new), mbrace2 (new), iPod/mp3 media interface, power rear window sunshade, soft close doors, electronic trunk closer, ambient lighting, heated front seats, burmester sound system (new), LED Intelligent light system, adaptive highbeem assist 7 speed automatic transmission, illuminated door sills, leather upholstery, and Sirius XM satellite radio (us only). Yes – this is standard equipment.

In addition, nine optional packages would be available: Rear Seat Package (Pre-Safe Rear Belt Buckle, Rear seatbelt airbags, easy adjust headrests, 4-zone climate control, chauffeur pkg rear, chauffeur co-driver) Sport Package (Sport Bodystyling, 19” AMG Twin 5-Spoke Wheel, Sport Package Code), Warm and Comford Package (Power Rear Seats, Memory Rear Seats, Heated and active ventilated rear seats, heated steering wheel, rear heated seats –plus, front heated arm seats, rear heated arm seats, warmth &comg. pkg), Sport Package Plus One (Sport Bodystyling, 20” AMG Multispoke wheels) Air Balance Package (Air Balance – ionization, perfume and filtration), Premium 1 Package (Parktronic with active parking assist, power rear window sunblinds, heated and active ventilated front seats, active multicotour seats with massage, keyless go / handsfree access, keyless go comford package, front heated seats – plus) Driver Assistance Package (distronic plus, active blind spot assist, active lane keeping assist, cms rear, distronic plus with steering assist, bas plus, pre-safe plus, pre-safe brake ) Surround View Camera (Surround View Camera, control code) and Rear sear entertainment pkg (remote controls, rear seat entertainment system).

Internally called the V222, the new S-Class will feature a new aluminum-intensive unibody with four-link front and multi-link rear suspensions – yes it will use the new Magic Ride Control system; a system that will scan the road ahead and will react – so it can compensate surface irregularities milliseconds before the car encounters them.

At the beginning it will be available in eleven exterior colors, from witch three are new: Diamond Silver, Ruby Black and Anthracite Blue.
Inside, Mercedes will install a new Burmester audio system (the same company that makes sound systems for Bugatti), and customers will have the possibility to choose between five types of trim levels – Burl Walnut Wood, Myrtle Sunburst Wood (new), Black Poplar Wood, Metalized Ash Wood (new) and Carbon/Piano Black Lacquer Trim.

The well-known Command system will feature two 12.3-inch displays, one for the instrument cluster, one for the infotainment system and most probably will come with an Audi MMI Touch-like touchpad.

mbrace2 will come as standard and according to the German automaker it provides drivers top-of-the-line features related to safety, infotainment, personal assistance and vehicle care. mbrace2 creates a networked vehicle offering open Internet access and custom versions of popular apps, including Facebook, Yelp and Google Local Search designed specifically for in-vehicle use – called Mercedes-Benz Apps.

Talking about safety, the new 2014 S-Class will come equipped with Active Seat Belts (designed for the rear seats). An electric motor extends and retracts the seat belt buckle automatically. In this way, the belt slack in the area of the pelvis and thorax can be reduced and passengers are secured more firmly in sideways and lengthways directions. Basically Once the belt is locked in, the buckle retracts and takes up unnecessary slack.
In addition, Mercedes will install inflatable rear seat belts dubbed Beltbags.

No price was unveiled yet, but considering the new technology that will be available inside this flagship sedan, we expect the new S-Class to have a starting price 10 percent more compared to the actual W221 S-Class.
