The Volkswagen Golf GTI and the Golf R have been officially introduced during the 2014 New York Auto Show.
Besides unveiling the 2014 Jetta, the German based automaker Volkswagen has also pulled the wraps off the Golf GTI and its more powerful brother the Golf R, during the same 2014 New York Auto Show. The regular hatchback is already available for order in the United States, but instead of bringing it to the automotive event, VW has chosen to introduce the more hardcore GTI and R versions of the model.
The Volkswagen Golf GTI is combining power, economy and build quality for a starting price of 25,215 USD, announced yesterday, which is including the destination and the handling charges. If the DSG is what you’re looking for, you should get ready to pay an extra 1,100 USD, and 1,500 USD more for the Performance Pack, which is bringing larger brakes, a differential and 10 HP more. The Golf R was also unveiled in New York and despite sharing the same 2.0 TSI engine with the GTI, this has been upgraded and it’s producing almost 300 HP, sent to the 4Motion AWD. Both Golf GTI and R will be assembled in Mexico.
