The British based automaker Land Rover is planning to introduce a high performance version of the next-gen Range Rover Sport.
The future generation of the Range Rover Sport has already been spied worldwide ever since earlier this year and now the model is being placed into the spotlights once again, this time with a rumor, which is saying that a high performance version is in the works too. According to the Land Rover chief of Chassis Systems, the 2014 Range Rover Sport R-S will follow the example of the Jaguar XKR-S.
“It’s one of the areas which the business can expand. You’ve seen this with Jaguar and its XKR-S edition. They’ve done very well with the R-S model … so there’s the ability to do those sorts of things with Land Rover product”, said David Waide when speaking to Car Advice.
The 2014 Range Rover Sport R-S will be more powerful than the Range Rover Supercharged but it won’t be a direct rival to the Porsche Cayenne GTS. The model is expected to use the same engine as the Jaguar XKR-S, the 5.0 liter V8 which is producing a total output of 550 HP (405 kW) and 680 Nm of torque (501 lb-ft). The model should be able to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately five seconds.
