The future generation of the Audi R8 will be lighter than the one already available for order, according to Ulrich Hackenberg, the company’s Board Member for Technical Development.
After already finding out the first details on the successor of the Lamborghini Gallardo, the so-called Cabrera, time has come to find out some minor things about the future Audi R8 generation. According to the company’s Technical Development board member, Ulrich Hackenberg, who has recently spoken to the guys at Motor Trend, the new generation of the Audi R8 and the Lamborghini Cabrera will each have their own driving experience despite the fact that they will share the same platform and a lot of components.
According to the source mentioned above, the 2015 Audi R8 will become 110 – 130 lbs (50 – 59 kg) lighter than its predecessor. These figures will be achieved thanks to the use of a carbon fiber central tunnel and carbon fiber floorboards. As far as the engine lineup goes, Ulrich Hackenberg declined to go into specifics but rumors are saying that the model in question might be offered with a 450 HP (335 kW) 4.2 liter V8 unit, along with a larger 5.2 liter V10, producing 570 HP (425 kW). The new Audi R8 generation will be unveiled in 2014.
