The official successor of the 458 Spider, the 488 Spider, has been shown by Ferrari at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show.
Several exotic drop-tops, including the Huracan Spider and the Aventador Roadster, have debuted at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show and Ferrari couldn’t stay away from this as it has also made the public debut of the 488 Spider. The model in question has been originally unveiled in late July and it is now being shown to the audience at the German automotive event in a premiere.
The Ferrari 488 Spider is the official replacement of the 488 Spider and it is following the same footsteps as its solid roof version, the 488 GTB, expect, obviously, for the retractable hard top, which is folding back in two overlapping sections in 14 seconds. The supercar has a spaceframe chassis made of 11 different aluminum alloys which have been combined with other metals, including magnesium.
The torsional rigidity and beam stiffness is at the same level as the one in the 488 GTB, while the chassis has a 25 percent improvement. The aerodynamic underbody with vortex generators can also be mentioned, along with the blown spoiler. Under its hood, the 3.9 liter twin turbo V8 engine is found, producing 670 HP (492 kW) at 8,000 rpm and 760 Nm (560 lb-ft) of torque, available at 3,000 rpm. The 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration takes 3 seconds and from 0 to 200 km/h (124 mph) it can do it in 8.7 seconds. The boot capacity is at 230 liters and the fuel tank capacity stands at 78 liters.
