The Toyota RAV4 Hybrid has been introduced, in its European specification, during the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, in a premiere.
The newest model to be signed by Toyota coming from the German automotive event is called the RAV4 Hybrid and this is in its European specification. Despite this, it is looking basically identical to its North American version and it will become available with front-wheel or all-wheel drive version, with the latter variant getting an additional electric motor to power the rear wheels.
“Its full hybrid drive system combining a 2.5 liter Atkinson Cycle petrol engine with a powerful electric motor, the new RAV4 Hybrid is available in both front-and all-wheel drive variants. The RAV4 Hybrid AWD has a second, rear mounted electric motor that offers increased traction and a 1,650 kg towing capacity without the added weight and complexity of a central prop shaft”, says Toyota in its press release.
The new Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is making use of the aforementioned 2.5 liter four-cylinder Atkinson Cycle petrol burner, which is backed up by an electric motor, taking its juice from the nickel-metal hybrid battery. The model has an electric CVT (continuously variable transmission) and it is putting down a total of 197 HP (145 kW), enough for a 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration made in 8.7 seconds and a top speed of 180 km/h (111 mph). The average fuel consumption of the crossover stands at 4.9 liters / 10 km (57.6 mpg UK / 48 mpg US) and the CO2 emissions stop at 115 g/km.
