The new generation of the Audi R8 has been officially presented at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, in a world premiere.
Following its online unveil just a few days ago, the 2016 Audi R8 has been introduced at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. The German supercar is getting an evolutionary styling, the standard LED headlights or the optional laser lighting units flanking the honeycomb pattern of the front grille with its single frame, the curved lines on the side design, the dividing side blades, the prominent shoulder line, retractable rear spoiler, LED taillights, the CFRP fixed wing, the large diffuser and the trapezoidal exhaust pipes.
The torsional rigidity of the aluminum body has increased by 40 percent and the new Space Frame is made out of CFRP and aluminum, keeping the weight of the R8 to 1,555 kg and to 1,454 kg for the R8 V10 Plus. In the cabin, the carmaker has added new bucket seats, Alcantara / pearl Nappa leather and fine Nappa leather upholsteries, a 12.3-inch display replacing the buttons and controls, the Audi phone box, optional Bang & Olufsen audio system, clear coated carbon fiber accents and more.
The brand new Audi R8 has a 5.2 liter V10 naturally aspirated engine under its hood, the same as the Lamborghini Huracan, rated at 540 HP (397 kW) and 540 Nm (398 lb-ft) of torque in base version and 610 HP (449 kW) and 650 Nm (413 lb-ft) in the V10 Plus. The 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint takes 3.5s and top speed stands at 320 km/h (200 mph) in the regular while the R8 V10 Plus can reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.2s and a top speed of 330 km/h (205 mph).
The average fuel consumption stands at 11.8L / 100km (23.9 mpg UK / 19.9 mpg US) in the R8 and at 12.4L / 100km (22.7 mpg UK / 18.9 mpg US) in the R8 V10 Plus, while the CO2 emissions are 275 g/km and 289 g/km respectively. Both versions have an updated 7-speed S tronic transmission with manual mode, sending power to the Quattro AWD system. Prices for the new R8 will start from 165,000 EUR while the R8 V10 Plus will cost 187,400. The models will go on sale starting from this summer.
Last but not least we have to mention the R8 e-tron 2.0 which has two electric motors and a total output increased to 462 HP (340 kW) and 920 Nm (679 lb-ft) of torque from 381 HP (280 kW) and 820 Nm (605 lb-ft) of torque. The 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint takes 3.9s and top speed is limited to 250 km/h (155 mph). Rumor has it that the new R8 will be introduced with a TDI diesel engine and a plug-in hybrid is also in the works.
