The Chinese brand is making inroads into the European market, with the 3 City SUV model debuting for the first time on the continent during the 2015 edition of the Geneva motor show.
The Chinese automaker has already started selling the model at home since last December and has now shown its plans to market the model in Europe with the regional debut at Geneva. Qoros is a joint venture of Chery and Israel Corporation, established not long ago in 2007 and already selling on European markets the 3 Hatch and 3 Sedan. The latter – unlike previous Chinese entries from other brands – was actually the safest car tested by Euro NCAP in 2013. According to the automaker, the “new Qoros 3 City SUV is designed for a more premium metropolitan lifestyle, perfect for urban cruising and country driving. And thanks to innovative connectivity, drivers can make the most of every journey.”
What’s more important is the crossover is not a copycat to a European or US design, sporting its own design hues and complete with a compact allure that would make a Nissan Qashqai or Volvo V40 Cross Country jealous. We have no idea what the prices will be, but if the ones in China are a hint, we’re looking at a compact offering with subcompact prices. There’s only one engine option available, though, a 1.6-liter turbocharged petrol 4-cylinder that delivers 156 hp and 210 Nm (155 lb-ft) of torque to the front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox or a dual-clutch automatic. Mileage has been officially rated at 6.8 l/100km (34.5 mpg) or 6.9 l/100km (34 mpg), according to the transmission variant. Reaching 100 km/h will take up to 10.1 seconds and the model topps out at 208 km/h (129 mph).
