Just like any other respectable automaker, especially one involved in motorsporting events around the world, South Korea’s Hyundai has decided to establish the dedicated N Performance division.
Hyundai has become a well known competitor in the World Rally Championship (WRC) and this means it was high time a dedicated high performance sub-brand would appear, with the setting for the public debut being the 2015 edition of the IAA Frankfurt motor show. To showcase their new announcement, Hyundai will not come empty handed in the performance department, showcasing the N 2025 Vision Gran Turismo concept, as well as the preview for the upcoming i20 WRC for the 2016 season and the RM15 concept.
“The result of intensive testing and product development, the sub-brand N builds on Hyundai Motor’s successful motorsport experiences and technology capability to drive future performance-oriented and race-track-capable models forward and bring ‘the most thrilling winding road’ fun to customers,” has commented the decision the company in a press release.
Meanwhile, the N 2025 Vision Gran Turismo concept has been created specifically as a virtual study for the Gran Turismo 6 game and is also used to drive the attention on upcoming performance ideas, “truly representing the future potential of Hyundai N.” The RM15 concept car, also on display, will showcase the company’s newly found desire for performance and shows how Hyundai N driver-oriented technologies could reach production. It’s a mid-engined concept with a 2.0-liter 300ps power mill that will be developed further to serve as a base for the technologies that will then reach Hyundai’s cars in the near future.
The new generation i20 WRC is based on the latest generation of the i20 subcompact, featured as the early prototype for the model designed to compete in the 2016 WRC season – which is scheduled to debut in Monte Carlo.
