The North American International Auto Show in Detroit has been selected as the presentation venue for the 2016 Nissan Titan XD that roared into NAIAS with its 310 bhp V8 turbodiesel.
The model has finally been presented after a rather serious and lengthy teasing campaign – we should also mention that when referring to the Titan and Titan XD Nissan treats them as two different models. The new 2016 Titan XD is not a trim level and sits above the regular Titan – it’s also powered by a Ram 1500 EcoDiesel beating Cummins 5.0L V8 Turbo Diesel engine that churns out 310 bhp (231 kW) and an outstanding 555 lb-ft (752 Nm) of torque. With the latter being adamant to the professional capabilities of a pickup truck, the new Titan XD can make do with a maximum towing capacity of at least 12,000 pounds and the payload capacity is also above 2,000 pounds. The model can be had by eager diesel fans – though they’re for sure fewer than before since the average price of regular gas is today close to the $2 a gallon level – in Crew Cab, King Cab and Single Cab configurations and there are also available three different bed lengths.
Further configurations are possible via numerous trim levels, such as the rugged Pro-4X and flagship grade Platinum Reverse model. There are 2WD and all-wheel drive versions for all trim specifications, save for the 4WD-only Pro-4X. Design wise, the new Titan is sleeker than its predecessor, though it won’t be coming home with the top prize from any pageant competition any time soon. Instead LED head and taillights can be had, alongside other goodies such as front and rear NASA-inspired Zero Gravity seats and the more premium-feeling interior has gained 33 percent front & 28 percent rear more storage space. Also on offer are the 5-inch color display, 12-speaker sound system, 12-volt & 120-volt power outlets and a 7-inch NissanConnectSM with navigation, Blind Spot Warning (BSW) system and the front and rear Sonar.
