The next generation of the Opel Astra has been caught on the open road once again as its development is taking place on the Old Continent.
One of the most important models produced by Opel, under the close watch of General Motors, is the Opel Astra, which is a rival to popular models such as the Volkswagen Golf, the Renault Megane, the Ford Focus or the award winning Peugeot 308. The model in question is now getting ready to receive a new generation and a prototype has been caught on camera while it was being tested out, once more.
The 2015 Opel Astra will be developed along with the new-gen Chevy Cruze as both vehicles will be based on the D2XX platform, which is also used on the Ampera and the Volt. The popular C-segment car will be 50 to 100 kg lighter than the current generation and it will get new underpinnings along with smaller engines which will be more powerful and frugal and they will have three and four cylinders. Several body styles will become available for the new Astra, including the hatchback, the sedan, the Sports Tourer wagon and the GTC three-door coupe. The new-gen Opel Astra is believed to be unveiled by the end of this year.
