Volkswagen has announced that the 2015 Beetle GRC has received a new engine.
The 2015 Volkswagen Beetle GRC has been upgraded with a new engine. According to the car manufacturer, this has been added to the car which will be competing in the Global Rallycross Championship.
“We are very much looking forward to the start of the GRC season with the Beetle. The 2015 Beetle GRC has been further developed, based on all our experience we gained with the brand new Beetle last year. We are looking forward to a serious title challenge with Scott Speed and Tanner Foust in 2015 and we are sure that the Beetles will be real fan favorites again”, said the Volkswagen motorsport director, Jost Capito.
The 2015 Volkswagen Beetle GRC has received, under its hood, the new 2.0 liter TSI turbocharged petrol engine. The unit is capable of producing a total output of 553 HP and it has a peak torque of 465 lb-ft. This is connected to the six-speed sequential transmission and it is sending power to the fixed-ratio all-wheel drive system, with the front and the rear limited slip differentials. Volkswagen says that thanks to this setup, the new Beetle GRC needs just 2.0 seconds in order to reach 60 mph from a standstill. The vehicle has also received, besides the more powerful unit, the strut-type suspension on all fours with ZF dampers, 14-inch front and 11.8-inch rear ventilated disc brakes with 4-piston aluminum calipers and 17-inch wheels, wrapped in Yokohama competition tires.
