The US automaker has recently introduced during the 2016 edition of the New Delhi Auto Expo in India the new Beat Activ and Essentia concepts.
First off we have the Beat Activ concept that takes the basic Spark and morphs it into a crowd pleasing soft-roader. Chevrolet was coy on details but we can see the concept sports a lifestyle-themed bright green paint with plastic body cladding, aluminum accents, and LED lighting units for added panache. The hatchback then ups the ante with a more rugged take on the front end, some roof rails and five-spoke alloy wheels. The bespoke styling cues follow inside the cockpit where there are tri-color seats complete with green contrast stitching. Also on tap sit bright green trim, faux carbon fiber accents, while the modern life is covered by the MyLink infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality.
The Essentia concept is more interest with respect to actual production values – as it depicts the transformation of the Beat in a more practical sedan that is called an “exciting precursor to a new production car.” We’re not treated here to spectacular design work though we can highlight the grille treatment, the muscular wheel arches and the upward sweeping beltline. The cabin appears to be a different tune and looks considerably more appealing thanks to the brown leather and cloth seats with grey contrast stitching, the three-spoke steering wheel, chrome accents, and silver painted trim. Chevrolet didn’t offer any performance specifications – not even the engines slapped under the hood – but pointed out the models feature a wide range of safety equipment (for India, at least), including ABS, airbags and a rearview camera.
