After last week Renault offered an official preview of the brand new Koleos sport utility vehicle, the official premiere of the model took place on the show floor of the 2016 Auto China.
In China the model will become the company’s new flagship, with the D-segment SUV acting as the second generation Koleos, though with enhanced dimensions compared to the compact-sized first generation predecessor. The new Koleos brings to the table the same styling as depicted via the all new Megane and Talisman passenger cars, with the model being an international affair – the French want to sell it across 80 markets. Being substantially larger than the outgoing Koleos, who never performed well in terms of sales, the Koleos is also bigger than the compact Kadjar. As such the company has promised a class-leading interior space with 289-mm rear knee room. According to Renault the driving position is 150-mm higher compared to a standard sedan and the company offers lots of interior amenities, such as a heated steering wheel, R-LINK 2 infotainment system, and a BOSE audio system.
Using the same architecture underpinning the Nissan X-Trail, the Koleos can be called its brother, though it will only be offered as a five-seater. It will also boast an all-wheel drive system packing the 2WD, 4WD AUTO, and 4WD LOCK modes. Lots of safety and assistance systems are also present: active emergency braking, lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition, blind spot warning, along with front/rear/side parking sensors and a rearview camera, among others. The second generation Koleos will be produced in Wuhan for the Chinese market, while the other 79 markets will be handled by the Busan plant in South Korea.
