BMW has introduced a new member of the 2-Series Active Tourer family, the 225xe plug-in hybrid.
The new BMW 225xe plug-in hybrid has been officially unveiled recently and it will be making its public debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. The model in question will be going into production later on this year and it will be offered for sale, on its local market, from 37,800 euros. The vehicle is making use of a 1.5 liter TwinPower Turbo 3-cylinder engine, backed up by an electric motor and a 7.7 kWh lithium-ion battery.
The internal combustion unit is rated at 136 HP (100 kW) and 220 Nm (162 lb-ft) of torque, while the electric motor is generating 88 HP (65 kW) and 165 Nm (122 lb-ft) of torque. The engine is driving the front wheels and the electric motor the rear wheels so the 225xe can be front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The total output produced by the assembly stands at 224 HP (165 kW) and 385 Nm (284 lb-ft) of torque.
The 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration takes just 6.7 seconds and top speed stands at 202 km/h (126 mph). The average fuel consumption of the car is 2.0 – 2.1L / 100km (134.5 – 141.2 mpg UK) and the CO2 emissions stop at 46 – 49 g/km. In electric mode, the car can travel up to 41 km (25 miles) at speeds up to 125 km/h (78 mph) and when the battery is depleted, this can be recharged in about 3 hours and 15 minutes with the conventional household outlet. With the BMW I Wallbox, the time is reduced to 2 hours and 15 minutes.
