2016 Detroit Auto Show: 2017 Kia Forte facelift image

The South Korean automaker has decided to introduce at the North American International Auto Show the updated 2017 Kia Forte sedan, coming with refreshed design and technology upgrades.

The facelifted 2017 model year Forte has gained some subtle exterior design tweaks such as a new bumper up front with its own take on the ‘tiger nose’ radiator grille, while the latter has been connected to the headlights as we already saw on the 2016 Optima. The back comes with new taillights that can optionally employ LED technology. The updated model also comes with a new trim level – sitting between the base LX and flagship EX versions is the sporty S trim. This one packs a more dynamic suspension, 16-inch alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, as well as a rear spoiler. All variants boast as standard equipment the Drive Mode Select packing the Normal, Eco, or Sport setups. The 2017 Forte also comes with a plethora of safety and assistance systems, such as autonomous emergency braking, front collision warning, lane change warning, lane keep assist, and others.

Most new owners will be interested to know the 2017 Forte also packs now the 2.0-liter Atkinson inline 4-cylinder engine instead of the older 1.8 motor and this one can be had either with a six speed manual or a six speed automatic transmission. The top EX models will have under the hood a different 2.0-liter engine, mated to a six-speed auto gearbox. Kia added specific technical details – power and fuel economy will be delivered closer to launch, expected in the coming months.
