The new generation of the Hyundai Avante / Elantra has been officially unveiled on its local market.
Known as the Avante in South Korea and the Elantra in other markets, we are now looking at the sixth generation of the vehicle. The compact car has now increased compared to its previous version and it is 20 mm longer and 25 mm wider, providing a more spacious interior. The car manufacturer says that the space offered to passengers is comparable to what we can find in a D-segment model so expectations are really high for it, especially since soft-touch and high-quality materials have also been announced.
The interior design of the 2016 Hyundai Avante / Elantra is driver-focused with the display being 6.9 degrees angled towards the driver, while the buttons on the dashboard have been regrouped ergonomically. The vehicle is also getting a redesigned suspension system, improved handling and better responses at different speeds. The road and wind noise have been reduced as well as special attention has been paid in this chapter.
In South Korea, the compact car is available with three engines, two gasoline and one diesel burner, with the most powerful one being the 2.0 MPi Atkinson, producing 147 HP (108 kW) and 180 Nm (132 lb-ft) of torque. There is also a 1.6 liter GDi gasoline unit, rated at 130 HP (96 kW) and 161 Nm (119 lb-ft) of torque, along with the 1.6 liter VGT diesel, which is delivering 134 HP (99 kW) and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) of torque. Transmission options include the six-speed manual and the six-speed automatic. The diesel can also be had with a 7-speed DCT.
