The first example of the new Mazda MX-5 generation in the United States has arrived with its owner who was the winning bidder at an auction. He had to pay no less than 50,000 USD for it and the car was sold on the 11th of July. Proceeds will benefit the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, which is treating children with cancer and other diseases.
“On July 11th, the coveted 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata Launch Edition, the first new-generation MX-5 to go on sale in the U.S., sold to an online bidder with Proxibid for $50,000. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the sale will benefit St. Jude, thanks to the generous donation of the vehicle by Mazda”, says the automaker in its press release.
The new Mazda MX-5 Launch Edition is getting the Soul Red exterior finish with 17-inch alloy wheels, adaptive LED headlights and more. The cabin is bringing the Mazda Connect infotainment system, along with a Bose audio system, automatic climate control and heated leather seats. Power is coming from a 2.0 liter SKYACTIV engine, which is capable of putting down a total of 155 HP (115 kW) and 200 Nm (148 lb-ft) of torque. This can be connected to a standard 6-speed manual or an optional 6-speed automatic transmission.
