The flagship Lexus sedan is making the auto show circuit – it was first revealed at NAIAS in January, then the hybrid version appeared at the Geneva Motor Show in March and now the F Sport version comes to life in front of the worldwide audience of the Big Apple show.
But the company hasn’t actually ramped up the power – instead they are only fitting the large LS with 20-inch wheels, upgraded brakes, and an optional handling package upgrade. The 2018 Lexus LS 500 and LS 500h have been taken to New York with the F Sport package – which bridges the gap between the standard versions and the high-performance F models. Design wise, the F Sport brings a new spindle grille design, new side skirts, fender badging, 20-inch wheels, and trunk moldings – and the cherry on top is that F Sport owners can also spec an exclusive Ultra White paint scheme.
In the cabin, the F Sport grants new bolstered front seats, various aluminum trim pieces, a new F Sport steering wheel, and a new instrument cluster with a moving dial (mirroring the LFA). Additional perks include aluminum trim for the pedals, a suede headliner, leather-wrapped shifter, and a Circuit Red interior trim color. The 20-inch alloys enable the use of larger brakes, with six-piston front and four-piston rear calipers. RWD versions of the LS 500 can also gain the new Handling package – bringing variable-ratio steering, rear-wheel steering, “sport-tuned” air suspension, and the company’s Active Stabilizer anti-roll-bar system.
