Audi has decided to pay a visit to the Specialty Equipment Market Association Show in Las Vegas with an eye looking in the past – the TT Clubsport Turbo Concept is styled according to lines laid out by the iconic Audi 90 IMSA GTO racer.
The Ingolstadt-based manufacturer is bringing an even more masculine take on the TT – which retains its soft-feminine image even after the second generation arrived complete with the TT RS version sporting the 2.5-liter engine and 400 hp. But there’s nothing of the sorts when inspecting the new Audi TT Clubsport Turbo Concept – now taken all the way up to 600 hp with a modified RS engine. In this version, the sports coupe has supercar material, with a sprint to 62 mph (100 kph) in a mere 3.6 seconds, on its way towards the maximum speed of 192.6 mph (310 kph).
The squarish wheel arches and low demeanor are direct references to the inspiration model – the Audi 90 IMSA GTO from the late ’80s – and comes 5.5 inches (14 cm) wider than the standard RS, complete with adjustable carbon fiber rear wing and new aero tweaks, boding well with the wider wheels and race-spec tires. Audi is also premiering at SEMA in Las Vegas the production-ready Audi Sport Performance Parts line for the US-market models.
