The Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona, has been the welcoming venue for Shelby to take the wraps off its 2017 50th Anniversary Shelby Super Snake.
Shelby American has awarded the new, celebratory snake with up to 750 horsepower (559 kilowatts) and comes in at a starting price of just $69,995. Fortunately for fans not 50 but 500 units of the anniversary model will be commissioned, with the 2017 Super Snake built to honor the 50th anniversary of the original, first showed way back in 1967. It starts its life as a 2017 Mustang GT – so there are no changes like on the 2018 refreshed Mustang – but Shelby supercharges Ford’s 5.0-liter V8 to the base option of 670 horsepower (449 kilowatts). If that’s not enough for you, the use of an optional Whipple or Kenne Bell supercharger will take matters to 750 hp.
This, of course, means you’ll be able to take on the Challenger Hellcat – and who knows, maybe even on the new Demon – as it hits 60 miles per hour (96 kilometers per hour) in just 3.5 seconds, so the quarter-mile drag time should stand at a mere 10.9 seconds. The Shelby cooling package and new Ford Performance half shafts and a one-piece drive shaft beef up the performance credentials. The exterior has iconic Shelby cues – new hood, rockers, spoilers, splitters, grilles, fog lights, and rear tail panel and diffuser assembly.
