2017 Speedback GT is gracing the Geneva Motor Show image

We already know firsthand the Swiss event is the Mecca of exotic automotive labels, so there’s no surprise such an elegant proposition – such as the 2017 Speedback GT – is making its debut there.

With a gynormous price tag – £495,000 (about $622,330 / €577,140) – David Brown Automotive still makes a compelling case for wanting the beautifully retro-flavored Speedback GT, which comes to life after at least 8,000 man hours after it starts its existence as a Jaguar XKR. The coachbuilder – long live this almost forsaken art – will have not one but two 2017 model year examples on display at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show in March wearing the latest updates and design enhancements. This is a unique hand-built ride that starts its life as a regular Jaguar XKR and becomes a James Bond – ala Aston Martin DB5 – ride.

After 142 aluminum panels the only thing left from the donor is the windshield frame – and even the painting process takes no less than eight weeks. The XKR’s standard trunk lid is also swapped with a practical top-hinged tailgate that needs roof changes, and DBA even creates something new – you can fold down the lower section of the tailgate to create a seat. There are 237 changes over the 2014 prototype – but the same untamed heart under the hood: supercharged 5.0-liter V8 packing 510 horsepower (380 kilowatts) and 461 pound-feet (625 Newton meters) of torque.
