The German automaker has added a new option on the updated Golf R – the Performance Pack – back in Geneva in March, but it’s only now detailing it for core fans.
For starters, it features components you usually get on the aftermarket scene, without factory warranty – this time through the official collaboration you need not worry. Manufactured by well-known specialist Akrapovič, the new titanium exhaust system not only sounds great, but also discards 7 kilograms (15.4 pounds) from the standard setup. The all-wheel-drive performance hatchback’s new soundtrack is even modular, because it can be altered via the driving modes. The performance pack also has other goodies that will enhance the driver’s pleasure.
The new uprated brake system comes with savings of 2 kg (4.4 lbs) compared to the standard setup, and comes with an aluminum brake pot teamed up with a cast steel friction ring using cast pins. The optional system is different visually as it has a silver logo plate adorned with “R” lettering on the calipers. Volkswagen is even offering the parts separately, and for those long track weekends also has the option to hook you up with semi-slick tires. For extra cash, there are even aero enhancements – air curtains in the front bumper, reshaped side skirts, and an optimized rear diffuser inspired by race cars, along with a roof-mounted spoiler increasing downforce by 20 kg (44 lbs).
