2018 Citroen C4 Cactus puts an end to quirkiness image

You’re not going to call the new C4 Cactus conventional or think it lacks a personality, but it’s also not the groundbreaking design from 2014 – instead aligning with the current corporate styling of the brand.

The adorable – and also fully polarizing – Citroen C4 Cactus has been around since 2014, but after just four years on the market the company is making a 180-degrees turn with the facelift that looks more substantial than even new generations at some competing brands. The company is also dropping the crossover credentials, calling the New C4 Cactus (as is the denomination) a true compact hatchback. The modifications are truly substantial, so you could say Citroen is bringing out the second generation C4 Cactus without making a mistake. There are also never before seen features – the first time in Europe Citroen is using the Progressive Hydraulic Cushions suspension, the world’s first model to use Advanced Comfort seats, along with 12 driver assistance systems and 3 connectivity technologies.

Altogether there are at least 31 different exterior combinations – thanks to a floating roof design, the presence of the signature Airbump side panels (which have been lowered and shrunk), nine body colors and five different alloy wheels. Under the hood the same engine family can be found – from the base PureTech three-cylinder gas option with 82 horsepower (61 kilowatts), through the PureTech 110 with optional six-speed automatic and top 130-hp (96-kW) PureTech. From autumn next year the BlueHDi diesel engine will also be offered, with 100 hp (74 kW), or 120 hp (89 kW) options.

Inside, the upgrades include the mirror screen function with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and MirrorLink connectivity, navi system, emergency geolocation call and assistance service, as well as active safety brake, speed limit recognition, lane departure warning, coffee break alert, driver attention alert, blind spot monitoring, park assist, hill start assist, a reverse camera, static cornering lights, grip control, and keyless start and access. The cabin also boasts five different trim options – Standard, Metropolitan Red, Wild Grey, Hype Grey and Hype Red.
