The artist’s eye usually has more love for the depicted thing than it should in reality – and the case is set for the next-generation Rexton to look great here and a little worse in the real life.
But then again SsangYong’s designs have never been won any design award, as they are usually known for their quirkiness – and not always in a flattering way. But things are looking up for the new Rexton coming under the “Y400” project name. Previewed at the 2016 Paris Motor Show via the LIV-2 concept, the new big SUV will serve as the brand’s flagship model when it gets launched at home in South Korea quite quickly – Thursday at the Seoul Motor Show. We might be seeing some styling love from the company as its parent Mahindra & Mahindra bought Pininfarina back in 2015 for $28 million.
The company has also revealed some preliminary technical specifications – specifically the Rexton’s size: 4,850 mm (191 inches) long, 1,920 mm (75 inches) wide, 1,800 mm (71 inches) tall, and a cabin spacious wheelbase stretching at 2,865 mm (113 inches). The powertrain will be using gasoline and new “clean-burning diesel” engines with an all-wheel-drive layout. The brand also noticed their new SUV will be the first production car in the world to use a Quad-Frame body structure using 1.5Gpa giga-steel.
