The 2017 Dubai Motor Show has at least one major introduction to showcase to the world – the quickest and most powerful Chevrolet Corvette in history, the newly introduced ZR1 version.
Dubai, with its affluence of exotic supercars is not exactly out of place for the Corvette ZR1’s long-awaited reveal – “The King is returning, stronger than ever,” according to the manufacturer, and the mod does have true meaning. That’s because the ZR1 comes with an exclusive 6.2-liter supercharged V8 LT5 engine good for a meaty 755 horsepower (563 kilowatts) at 6,300 rpm and a rocket-ship 715 pound-feet (969 Newton-meters) of maximum torque at 4,400 rpm. General Motors has even up fitted the new Vette with something it has never used – a dual fuel injection system. More so, the ZR1 is catering to both purists and track day enthusiasts, allowing the options of a seven-speed manual (with active rev match) and an eight-speed automatic. There’s also a new carbon fiber “halo” hood that was developed specifically for the cooling of the new engine version sporting the highest output ever for a street-legal Chevrolet production car.
Compared to the Z06, the ZR1 also arrives with a raft of aerodynamic improvements, with buyers offered the choice of two aero packages: standard Low Wing and optional two-way-adjustable High Wing. The first one allows for the highest top speed possible, the ZR1 reaching more than 210 mph (338 kph) – and even featuring the base aero tweaks, this option still has up to 70 percent more downforce than the Z06. Go for the track performance and select the second choice, which has 60% more downforce (at an estimated 950 pounds) than the Z06 in the Z07 Performance Package configuration. The High Wing option also brings about the optional ZTK Performance Package, arriving with its own front splitter with carbon fiber end caps. The kit also includes special chassis tuning and Magnetic Ride Control, along with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 summer tires. Meanwhile, the new Sebring Orange Design Package is all about making yourself noticed, inside and out.
