Mercedes-Benz and its subsidiaries Smart, AMG and Maybach displayed 34 models at the recent Beijing International Automotive Exhibition.
Among the 34 models were included models such as the Mercedes-Benz Style Coupé Concept, G63 AMG SUV, G65 AMG SUV and new generation G500 SUV. The ML63 AMG SUV saw both the Chinese market debut and the Asian premiere. One of the attractions of the exhibition was a limited edition Smart, based on the Fortwo subcompact, commemorating the Year of the Dragon.
“Currently, China has already become Mercedes-Benz’s third largest market worldwide, and is expected to become the Daimler Group’s largest market in the next few years,” said Hua Lixin, board chairman and CEO of Daimler Northeast Asia.
Mr. Hua was proud of the 34 models presented at the exhibition saying that this shows Mercedes’ long-term commitment with the Chinese market. He added that more models, both domestically-made and imported are expected in the near future. The Beijing Benz joint venture will be the one to produce the well-received GLK line of SUVs. Merecedes-Benz has already begun construction of a Chinese engine factory, which would be the first of this kind on foreign territory. Production at this factory is expected to begin in 2013.
