Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung announced today that possible closer cooperation between the Bavarian automaker and Daimler is possible in the near feature. After this announcement, BMW shares rose 2 percent.

Commerzbank analyst Daniel Schwarz said: “According to our calculations, a cooperation in purchasing, r&d and financial services could generate annual cost savings of up to 3 billion euros or 1.10 euros per Daimler share and 1.60 euros per BMW share,”

“We believe that BMW is the more efficient company with regard to purchasing compared to [Daimler’s] Mercedes,” Schwarz said, adding that Daimler stands to gain more from the cooperation.

The Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung article presents a plan between BMW and Mercedes to share research and manufacturing as they seek ways to cut costs during the economic downturn.
