Aftermarket VW Polo R WRC Street brings more power to the table than a Golf R400 image

The special series limited run edition Volkswagen Polo R WRC Street has met with the tuning experts from Wimmer Rennsporttechnik.

The encounter resulted in one of the fastest, most powerful Polo that has been manufactured for the public roads. The latest such model that was quick and powerful had been produced way back in 2012 when the Golf GTI’s turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine was transplanted into the smaller brethren. It delivered inside the Polo R WRC Street a great 220 hp and this supermini was able to reach 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 6.4 seconds on its way to a maximum speed of 151 mph (243 km/h). Wimmer has remembered the little bomb and decided more power is always in order, and they set out to almost double the standard model’s power – reaching an impressive 420 hp (309 kW). This is a 20 hp improvement even over the Golf R400 concept which is still waiting for someone at the top to green light it.

As for the Wimmer VW Polo R WRC Street, the power was extracted via the updated turbocharger, modified the high-pressure pump, and installation of a bespoke stainless steel sports exhaust system. The intercooler has also been touched and the engine ECU has been remapped. The new torque figure is also fantastic, standing in at 354 lb-ft (480 Newton meters), up from the series 258 lb-ft (349 Nm). The conversion will set back interested owners €10,200 / $11,530 if they go for the stage IV upgrade kit and maximum speed will now stand in at 174 mph (280 km/h).
