Alfa Romeo has officially pulled the wraps off its brand new model, a midsize sedan called the Giulia.
Following several spy shots and a lot of leaked images, Alfa Romeo has officially introduced the new Giulia to its range. This is an elegant sedan with the “Italian” design on its body which is aimed towards the D-segment, meaning that it will become a rival for the BMW 3-Series, Audi A4, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Cadillac ATS and others in the range.
“An Alfa Romeo springs from the perfect balance of heritage, speed and beauty which makes it the highest expression of Italian style in the automotive world. The new Giulia is no exception because it encapsulates three particularities of Italian design: sense of proportions, simplicity and care for surface quality. This is the ‘skin’ that Alfa Romeo stylists have modeled with painstaking care on the mechanical parts”, says the automaker in its press release.
The Quadrifoglio Verde version has received the higher performance level and this is the range-topping model. It is getting the slender headlights, the ventilated hood, front fender vents, aerodynamic side skirts, the trunk-mounted spoiler, the four-tailpipe exhaust system incorporated into the rear diffuser, the high-performance braking system and several other goodies. Alfa Romeo may have declined to release any images with the interior design of the new model but it is said to include wood and carbon fiber trim along with a small steering wheel and other premium materials.
The Alfa Romeo Giulia has a perfect 50/50 weight distribution. This is also getting some carbon fiber made parts, including the roof, the hood and the propeller shaft. Aluminum has been used in its construction too, as the company is stating. Under its hood, the model has a six-cylinder turbocharged engine, which is capable of producing a total output of 503 HP (375 kW). Thanks to this unit, the 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint takes just 3.9 seconds. The Giulia is getting rear-wheel drive in standard but future buyers will also be able to order the optional all-wheel drive too.
The configuration of the car is making it a direct rival for the range-topping BMW M3, Mercedes C63 AMG S and Audi RS4, a fact confirmed by Alfa itself. Other competitors are the Cadillac ATS-V and the upcoming top of the line version of the Jaguar XE. Alfa didn’t release any more details on the new Giulia at this time so chances are a fresh photo gallery with even fresher details will be released in the near future. No pricing details have been disclosed either. The Giulia is the successor of the 159.
