The Italian based automaker Alfa Romeo is planning to develop a rival for the BMW 5-Series which might make its way onto the market in 2015.
The E-segment model is currently dominated by the BMW 5-Series, by the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and by the Audi A6 across the Old Continent but Alfa Romeo wants to put a stop on this. According on a recent report, the Italian based automaker is planning to develop a model which will take on the vehicles mentioned above, which should use some Masrati underpinnings. The model in question is envisioned as the successor for the Alfa Romeo 166.
The Fiat chief Sergio Marchionne is currently focusing on developing replacements for the 159, for the Giulietta and for the MiTo, but rumors are saying that he’s also considering a new premium sedan, which will enter the E-segment. The new model will be based on the Maserati Ghibli, which is expected to make its way onto the market next month, and it should get a 3.0 liter V6 twin turbo engine under its hood, with 385 HP (287 kW) and a 3.8 liter V8 twin turbo, with 480 HP (358 kW). Additional details on Alfa Romeo’s E-segment sedan remain unknown for the moment.
