The former 1990 Volkswagen Golf which belonged to German Chancellor Angela Merkel was sold over the internet for 10,165 euros.
After the VW Golf owned by Pope Benedict thee 16th was auctioned for a whopping 250,000 euros, the guy which placed Angela Merkel’s former Volkswagen Golf on sale had expected to get about the same amount for the hatchback but it seems that Europe’s “Iron Lady” isn’t too popular compared to the Pope and her former ride was sold for “just” 10,165 euros, which is quite a lot, considering the fact that the model is 22 years old.
Angela Merkel’s former Volkswagen Golf was bought by Dirk Fricke, a regular German, who wanted the car to remain in the country. Dirk Fricke didn’t say what he will do with his “new” ride but it seems that the hatchback will end up in a museum.
“I have no political affiliation. I just didn’t want to repeat the same example when a few years ago, Pope Benedict’s car has left Germany. This time, the car must stay in our country”, said Dirk Fricke.
The Volkswagen Golf which belonged to German Chancellor Angela Merkel was made in 1990 and until 1995 it was used by Europe’s “Iron Lady”, and her husband, Joachim Sauer, had also used it until 1996. The model has a 70HP petrol engine and it did 190,000 km.
